Cystoureteroscopy with ureteroscopy, also known as ureteroscopy, is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the urinary tract, such as ureteral stones or strictures. During the procedure, a cystoscope—a thin tube with a camera and light at the end—is inserted into the urethra and guided up into the bladder. From there, a smaller, flexible ureteroscope is advanced through the ureter and into the kidney, allowing the urologist to visualize the urinary tract and locate any stones or obstructions. If a stone is found, various techniques may be used to remove it, including laser lithotripsy, which involves breaking up the stone into smaller fragments using laser energy. Additionally, if a ureteral stent is present, it may be removed or replaced during the same procedure. Stent placement may also be performed if necessary to promote urine flow and prevent obstruction. Recovery from cystoureteroscopy with ureteroscopy and stone removal is typically quick, with most individuals able to return home the same day. Mild discomfort, urinary urgency, and blood in the urine are common after the procedure and usually resolve within a few days.
