Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL)
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) is available through Mark Cuban Companies Health Plan at a published cash price, paid when you book.
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy (ESWL) is a non-invasive medical procedure used to break down kidney stones into smaller fragments, making them easier to pass through the urinary tract. During the procedure, high-energy shock waves are generated externally and directed towards the kidney stones, which are located using fluoroscopy or ultrasound imaging. These shock waves penetrate the body and break up the kidney stones into tiny pieces, which can then be passed out of the body through urine. ESWL is typically performed on an outpatient basis and does not require any incisions, allowing for a quicker recovery compared to traditional surgical methods. Most patients can resume normal activities shortly after the procedure, although multiple sessions may be needed to completely fragment larger stones.
