Esophagoscopy - Diagnostic
Esophagoscopy - Diagnostic is available through Mishe Health Plan at a published cash price, paid when you book.
Diagnostic esophagoscopy is a medical procedure used to examine the inside of the esophagus, the muscular tube that connects the throat to the stomach, for abnormalities or diseases. It is typically performed by an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist) or a gastroenterologist using an endoscope—a thin, flexible tube with a camera and light at the tip. During the procedure, the patient is usually sedated to ensure comfort and relaxation. The endoscope is inserted through the mouth and gently advanced into the esophagus, allowing the healthcare provider to visualize the lining of the esophagus and identify any abnormalities such as inflammation, ulcers, strictures, tumors, or other lesions. Diagnostic esophagoscopy can help diagnose conditions such as gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), esophagitis, Barrett's esophagus, esophageal cancer, or swallowing disorders. Biopsies or other interventions may be performed during the procedure if necessary. Diagnostic esophagoscopy is typically performed as an outpatient procedure and is associated with minimal discomfort and a quick recovery.
