Direct Laryngoscopy
Direct Laryngoscopy is available through Mishe Health Plan at a published cash price, paid when you book.
Direct laryngoscopy is a medical procedure used to visualize the larynx, or voice box, and adjacent structures in the throat. It is commonly performed to diagnose or evaluate conditions such as vocal cord abnormalities, throat tumors, difficulty swallowing, or chronic hoarseness. During the procedure, the patient is typically placed under general anesthesia to ensure comfort and immobility. The laryngoscope—a thin, flexible or rigid tube with a light and camera at the tip—is inserted through the mouth and advanced into the throat to provide a clear view of the larynx and vocal cords. The healthcare provider can then examine the structures, take biopsies if necessary, or perform other interventions as needed. Direct laryngoscopy is often performed as an outpatient procedure and is associated with minimal discomfort and a quick recovery.
