Bunionectomy

Bunionectomy is available through Mishe Health Plan at a published cash price, paid when you book.

A bunionectomy is a surgical procedure performed to correct a bunion, a painful bony bump that forms at the base of the big toe joint. Bunions often develop due to factors such as genetics, wearing ill-fitting shoes, or abnormalities in foot structure that cause the big toe to angle towards the other toes. During a bunionectomy, the surgeon makes incisions near the affected joint to access the bunion and realign the bones of the foot. The procedure may involve removing excess bone, reshaping the bones, releasing tight ligaments or tendons, or correcting joint misalignment. Depending on the severity of the bunion and the patient's individual needs, various techniques may be used, including traditional open surgery or minimally invasive procedures such as chevron osteotomy or scarf osteotomy. After the bunion is corrected, the incisions are closed, and the foot may be immobilized with a cast or surgical boot to facilitate healing. Physical therapy and gradual return to weight-bearing activities are typically recommended to restore strength, flexibility, and function to the foot following surgery.
