Interlaminar Epidural Steroid Injection - Lumbar/Sacral

Interlaminar Epidural Steroid Injection - Lumbar/Sacral is available through Mishe Health Plan at a published cash price, paid when you book.

A Lumbar or Sacral Interlaminar Epidural Steroid Injection (ESI) is a minimally invasive procedure aimed at reducing pain and inflammation in the lower back (lumbar region) and the sacral area. This procedure involves administering a corticosteroid medication, often combined with a local anesthetic, into the epidural space through the interlaminar space between the vertebrae. This method targets a broad area around the inflamed nerve roots and spinal cord, making it effective for treating conditions such as herniated discs, spinal stenosis, degenerative disc disease, and sciatica, which involves nerve pain radiating from the lower back into the legs.| In the lumbar region, which includes the five lumbar vertebrae (L1-L5), interlaminar ESI addresses pain originating in the lower back that radiates into the hips, buttocks, and legs. The sacral region, located just below the lumbar spine and comprising the sacral vertebrae (S1-S5), is targeted to alleviate pain in the lower back and pelvic area, potentially extending into the legs. During the procedure, the patient lies face down on an examination table, and the injection site is cleaned and numbed with a local anesthetic. Using fluoroscopic (X-ray) guidance, the physician inserts a needle through the skin and soft tissues into the interlaminar space of the epidural area.
