Thyroglossal Duct Excision

Thyroglossal Duct Excision is available through Mark Cuban Companies Health Plan at a published cash price, paid when you book.

Thyroglossal duct excision is a surgical procedure performed to remove a thyroglossal duct cyst or tract, a congenital anomaly that forms during embryonic development when the thyroid gland descends from the base of the tongue to its final position in the neck. This procedure is typically recommended when the cyst or tract becomes symptomatic, causing pain, swelling, or recurrent infections in the neck. During the surgery, which is performed under general anesthesia, the surgeon makes an incision in the neck to access and remove the cyst or tract along with any associated structures, such as the thyroglossal duct and part of the hyoid bone. The surrounding tissues are then carefully closed to minimize scarring and promote healing. Recovery from thyroglossal duct excision usually involves several days of rest, pain management, and monitoring for any signs of infection or complications. Most individuals can return to normal activities within a few weeks after surgery, although full recovery may take several weeks to months.
