Total Thyroidectomy
Total Thyroidectomy is available through Mishe Health Plan at a published cash price, paid when you book.
Total thyroidectomy is a surgical procedure to remove the entire thyroid gland, which is located in the neck and plays a crucial role in hormone regulation. This procedure is typically performed to treat thyroid cancer, large thyroid nodules, Graves' disease (hyperthyroidism), or multinodular goiter (enlarged thyroid gland). During the surgery, the surgeon makes an incision in the neck and carefully dissects and removes the thyroid gland. This requires meticulous attention to avoid damaging nearby structures such as the parathyroid glands and recurrent laryngeal nerves, which are vital for calcium regulation and voice function, respectively. After the thyroid gland is removed, patients will need lifelong thyroid hormone replacement therapy to maintain normal thyroid hormone levels and prevent hypothyroidism.
