Laparoscopic Gastric Sleeve is a surgical procedure known as laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding, commonly referred to as lap band surgery. This minimally invasive procedure is performed to treat obesity by placing an adjustable silicone band around the upper part of the stomach, creating a smaller stomach pouch that limits food intake. During the surgery, the surgeon makes several small incisions in the abdomen and inserts a laparoscopic camera and specialized instruments to access the stomach. The adjustable gastric band is then placed around the upper portion of the stomach and secured in place with sutures. Once in position, the band is inflated with saline solution through a port that is placed under the skin of the abdomen. This inflation process can be adjusted over time to control the size of the stomach opening and the rate of food passage. Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding aims to promote weight loss by restricting the amount of food that can be consumed, leading to early satiety and reduced calorie intake.
