Lab Sleep Study

Lab Sleep Study is available through SUNY Downstate's Transparent Access Plan at a published cash price, paid when you book.

A lab sleep study, or polysomnography, is a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation conducted in a sleep laboratory to assess and monitor various physiological factors during sleep. Typically performed overnight, this in-lab study involves the use of advanced equipment to monitor key parameters, including brain activity (electroencephalogram), eye movement (electrooculogram), muscle activity, heart rate, respiratory effort, airflow, blood oxygen levels, and snoring. These measurements enable healthcare professionals to evaluate sleep architecture, identify sleep disorders, and diagnose conditions such as sleep apnea, insomnia, or restless legs syndrome. Polysomnography provides a detailed and accurate assessment of sleep patterns, allowing for a thorough understanding of sleep-related issues. It is particularly beneficial when a more comprehensive evaluation is needed beyond what can be achieved with home sleep studies. Following the study, healthcare providers can tailor treatment plans and interventions based on the specific sleep-related findings.
