Colonoscopy with Biopsy — $899
Colonoscopy with Biopsy costs $899 in cash through SUNY Downstate's Transparent Access Plan. That is the whole price: you pay it when you book, and no bill follows.
During a colonoscopy with biopsy, the patient undergoes a minimally invasive diagnostic procedure to examine the colon (large intestine) and rectum closely. The primary objective of this procedure is to investigate any abnormal findings observed during a standard colonoscopy. It typically starts with the patient being sedated to ensure comfort and relaxation throughout the procedure. Once sedated, a thin, flexible tube called a colonoscope with a camera at the end is inserted through the rectum and gently guided through the colon. The camera provides a live video feed to the gastroenterologist, who carefully navigates through the colon, inspecting its lining and searching for any abnormalities like polyps, tumors, or inflammation. If any suspicious areas are identified, the gastroenterologist will use specialized tools to obtain small tissue samples, known as biopsies, for further examination.
